In the second part of the blog Chow shows how China's adoption of Western
science as a "rational and progressive force to modernize and fortify the
nation," "left a mark on the historiography of Chinese music theory." The
*houqi* practice, in particular, was dismissed on the basis of its
“unscientificity.”
