To the degree that Dr. Kennedy's conclusions are valid and the product of a sound methodology, I cannot say that I am particularly surprised by his delightful discovery. If we were to set aside the tantalizing claims regarding Plato's political and philosophical affiliations and focus instead on the technical aspect of the discovery, we see that the artistic endeavors of composers like J. S. Bach and Bartok (who, in their case, famously relied on the arithmetic relations dictated by the golden section to shape the flow of their music) has deep roots in the European tradition. As a highly symbolic or simply an aesthetic device, the willful employment of numeric relations transcends the peculiarities of the artistic medium and continues to find meaningful applications in the visual, linguistic and, of course, the musical domain.

Speaking of cross-discipline. . .
I may be coming late to this, but I just learned of Dr. Jay Kennedy at University of Manchester who is publishing his fascinating discovery relating Pythagorean math & music theory and stichometry to hidden formal & symbolic content in Plato's Dialogues:

Any comments?
