I recommend Anthony Ashton's Harmonograph: A Visual Guide to the
Mathematics of Music (originally by Wooden Books, 2003, in Wales; in the
US, Walker & Co, 2003), a lovely little book.

You might also peruse the Journal of Music Theory, which has a long history
of using music-related images to decorate the spandrels.
