academic institution (freelancer). However, that may change as I
consider getting a PhD in theory or musicology/ethnomusicology.
One thing I'm very interested in is microtonality. I perform on a
flute that is advertised as being quarter-tone capable through the
whole range. However, this is one of only a handful of capabilities.
What I find interesting though is that quarter-tone music is still
based on an equal-tempered twelve-tone system. I have performed music
by composers that write for even more specific control (i.e. asking me
to play a pitch that is 2 cents sharp or flat from the written pitch).
What I'm curious about is what's written in terms of any microtonal
theory. I haven't found many texts written after 1988 or so, but I
assume there are people working actively in microtonality. Any
information about potential resources would be great to know.
