Apparently your rule set is different from Fux's!! Is dissonant
species counterpoint an invention of yours, or is it part of a text
you're using? Also, what are your rules for consecutive leaps?
Dissonant leaps? (I don't see any here, so I infer they aren't
allowed.) I've been retired for some years, so I haven't really been
keeping up with pedagogical methods.
A question that I have is whether working in a totally dissonant
interval universe has any impact on the dictum that one should avoid
simultaneous leaps such as between mm. 1-2, 2-3, and possibly 6-7.
In my opinion, the use of dissonance doesn't change the fact that
the brain processes successive tones close in pitch (half and whole
steps) as part of a directional line. And since counterpoint seems
to be all about line, a passage like mm. 1-3 would not be considered
"good".
