[Smt-talk] Advocating for the humanities

As a graduate student, I find it disheartening to encounter this kind of
chat-room banter, replete with ad hominem attacks, on a supposedly
professional forum. It's embarrassing.

What is the harm in letting a political debate that is relevant to
theorists run its course? According to SMT guidelines, the topic is
admissible to the forum. If you're not interested, then don't read the
posts. Smt-talk is not going to "devolve" into a CNN comments section just
because a few people find it relevant to discuss government funding in the
humanities.

Talk about priorities...
