Here are some interesting highlights from Goanet -- Goa's premiere mailing list
that was established in 1994 and is slowly creeping-up to 7000 subscribers in
every continent.

Goanet is available in 3 formats: Goanet (10-20 emails per day) or Goanet-Digest
(2-3 emails per day) or Goanet-News. You are presently subscribed to Goanet-News
where you receive just a news summary from Goa's leading newspapers and
occasional FEATURE articles. If you would like to subscribe to Goanet or Goanet
Digest on a trial basis, please send an email to goanet-admin at goanet.org or
reply to this message requesting the same. Membership is FREE and you can cancel
at any time!

Since Goanet is volunteer-driven, fellow-Goans are requested to kindly volunteer
some of their time to the success of this community initiative.

And there were many more messages on this subject.

Tony Fernandes let us know that he released his book "Memories of my Homeland"
in Toronto, Canada and Silviano Barbosa let us know that he will be releasing
his book "The Sixth Night" in December 2004 in Goa.

In fact Silviano surfaced on Goanet after a 4-5 year hiatus and shared with us
some old Goanet email from 1999:

http://www.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet/2004-May/026221.html

And ofcourse Goa's favorite sport, soccer, generated a number of messages with
the commencement of Euro 2004. While most Goanetters backed Portugal all the
way, some side discussions dwelled on Portugal's growth within the EU and the
successes and shortcomings of its people.

Besides the above there were a number of messages of Obituaries, old Goan coins,
editorials and feature articles, Goan/Indian sports news, requests for Cordinho
music and dance, concert dates for Lorna in London, Tiatro updates from Goa,
Canada, Kuwait and Qatar. There were messages from social organizations like Goa
Sudharop and others, people-looking-for-people-they-knew, queries and responses
on the forthcoming SFX Exposition, celebrations of Sao Joao from around Goa,
criticism and compliments for Goa Heritage Action Group and more. There were
discussions and posts on election post-mortems, flight information, Konkani
Proverbs, nostalgic memories shared, reports of Goan soccer tournaments from all
over the world and more stories of amche bangarachem Goeam.

Goan politics is always a favorite topic of debate on Goanet and the gyrations
of the Parrikar ministry after the 2004 Parliamentary electoral debacle featured
in a number of posts.

As I said at the start - very difficult to come up with Goanet's Highlights for
June 2004. You are encouraged to subscribe to Goanet or Goanet Digest to
experience the full flavour of debate, discussion and information on Goa, it's
culture, people, music and more.

Viva Goa !!
