to patients. (GT)

Masjid, ice factory, Ambedkar sports club areas and Basheshwar temple,
resolved to prevent prostitution from resurfacing in the area. The
decision was taken at a meeting held at Baina under the banner of the

TWO WHEELER THEFTS: Even though the police have stepped up day and night
patrolling in the hope of apprehending two-wheeler thieves, they are yet
to achieve a major breakthrough in this respect. Two-wheeler thefts are
common in areas like the Old Market, Old fish market, Gandhi market and

need to undertake a vigorous tree plantation drive to maintain the
ecological balance. He was addressing a gathering of students of the

apprehensions about the rise in water levels at beaches such as Calangute,

different species of birds including few endangered ones. According to the

artefacts were being shortlisted from various galleries of the
Archaeological Survey of India`s museum in Old Goa besides the private
Christian Arts Museum in Old Goa. (GT)
GOA`S GREAT SELL OFF: Has it come as a surprise to Goans that the current
census paints a sorry picture of the State`s agricultural sector or was it
expected. There is no doubt that very few people have realised close
linkage between growth in productivity in agriculture and the growth of
economy as a whole. But in Goa, the powers to be think otherwise, and it
is not surprising to read about the declining number of people tilling the
fields, helped largely by senseless laws passed...Apart from these
destructive land reforms has the government done anything worthwhile to
help the farmer? (Edit in Herald)
AGE OF INTERSTATE WATER WARS: How India as a nation would survive if water
resource rich states adopt hydrological Drawinism? If Karnataka goes ahead
forcibly with the construction of Kalsa and Bhanduri dams, Goa can do
little to stop it forcibly. The arid state of Rajasthan finds itself
vulnerable. Gujarat is heavily depending on the completion of the dams on
Narmada river. The hunger deaths in Orissa are well known. At the roots of
all anxieties is the scarce resource - fresh water. Every state is
demanding more and more of it. But India`s glaciers are retreating, rivers
are dying, many are irreversibly silted and polluted. The groundwater
resources are highly stressed. (Nandkumar Kamat in Glimpses-NT)
RAIA FEAST: The parishioners are all set to celebrate the feast of Our
Lady of Snows, locally called Konnsachem Fest on August 5. The traditional
feast draws people from all walks of life to Raia despite being held
during the monsoons. Many parishioners, working abroad, make sure that
they time their vacation to coincide with the feast. They carry the local
`konnos` back with them. (NT)
