Dear Group Members,

We are delighted to share with you some of the History of Theory events
taking place at the upcoming meeting of the AMS (and see Carmel and Roger's
recent email for SMT). Likewise, it's an exciting roster of events, and we
hope you can join us for any or all.

   1. Our pre-AMS conference, "Instruments of Music Theory," features ten
papers, three keynotes, and one concert. We're delighted that so many of
you have registered. *If you are planning on attending but have not yet
registered, please do so **by Oct. 31. *(Late registrants will still be
welcome to attend the paper panels and keynotes, but we may not be able to
accommodate them for the reception). The program and registration are
   available at: https://instrumentsofmusictheoryconference.wordpress.com/
   2. The AMS Study Group is sponsoring an evening session, "Instruments,
Diagrams, and Notation in the History of Music Theory" at the AMS meeting
on *Friday Nov, 10, from 8:00–11:00 in at the Convention Center's
Highland B/J room*. The session will feature papers by Lars
Christensen, Stephanie
Probst, Jennifer Iverson, Siavash Sabetrohani, and Alexander Bonus.
   3. Also of interest at AMS (and this is not a comprehensive list!) are a
Thursday afternoon session (2:00-5:00) on "Theory and Analysis" chaired by
Thomas Christensen, a Friday afternoon session (2:00-5:00) on "Intellectual
Roots Reviewed" chaired by James Currie, and on Saturday morning
(9:00-noon) a Zarlino Roundable chaired by Chrisle Collins Judd with Bonnie
Blackburn, respondent, "Zarlino at 500: A Roundtable on Current Scholarship
and Future Directions" (and much else besides)...

Best regards,

Andrew, Anna, and Caleb
