Dear HoT community,

We warmly invite you to join us for our business meeting (a joint session
of the AMS SG and the SMT IG) at the upcoming annual meeting in New
Orleans. The session is dedicated to "*The Problem of Translation in Global
Histories of Music Theory“, *and scheduled for *Saturday, Nov. 12,
2.15–4.30pm* in *Jackson*:
https://www.conftool.pro/nola2022-ams-sem-smt/index.php?page=browseSessions&form_session=302

We envision the session to unfold as a communal discussion of some key
issues arising with the need for translations in the context
of decentralising the history of music theory and invite everyone
to actively participate. We are very grateful that Anna Yu Wang and Liam
Hynes-Tawa will join us with input from their current work. Liam has also
kindly agreed to share with us two brief excerpts of work-in-progress
(-please note that these materials are for internal use only and Liam asks
not to share them). To further stimulate our discussion, we also ask
participants to read the Introduction, address to Indigenous readers (as
appropriate), and Chapter 1 from Dylan Robinson's *Hungry Listening. *The
readings can be accessed here:

We would also like to remind you all of our pre-conference *„Identity in
Music Theory and History“* to take place at Loyola University in New
Orleans on Nov. 9-10:

Please let us know of any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to
lively and productive discussions!
