Dear PAIG Members,

I’m writing to draw your attention the SMT Interest Group survey, which was recently sent to SMT members (see forwarded message below). This survey is a project of the IG Task Force, which is chaired by PAIG’s founder Daphne Leong.

I would like to encourage all PAIG members to take a moment to complete the survey. Your anonymous responses will provide PAIG with valuable feedback about our activities, and they will also provide the broader SMT community with information about the role of interest groups within our society. It’s important that those of us who actively participate in interest groups complete the survey so that our perspectives will be represented in the results.

As you know, the interest groups of the SMT have played an increasingly greater role in the activities of the society. The Interest Groups Task Force was appointed by President Hatten to explore questions related to the interest groups. We would like to ask for your feedback. It will provide important input into the recommendations we make both to the Executive Board and to IG chairs. SURVEY DESCRIPTION

This survey, for SMT members, is in two parts.
      Part 1 is for all SMT members.
      Part 2 is for members of interest groups, who should also complete Part 1.

Part 1. General
In Part 1 of this survey you will be asked to:

  1.  Indicate the interest groups in which you have participated.
  2.  Indicate how important you think interest groups are to the mission of the SMT.
  3.  Rank your preferences, given several options for scheduling interest group meetings at the conference.
  4.  Provide further comments if desired.


Part 2. Interest Group Members
In Part 2 you will be asked to indicate one interest group to which your answers will refer.
(You may return to this survey section to answer for another interest group if you wish.)

        With regard to the interest group you select, you will be asked to:
1.     Indicate your level of participation.
2.     Describe what makes this interest group valuable.
3.     Indicate preferred formats and activities.
4.     Indicate preferred duration for this interest group’s meeting.
5.     Provide comments on what has worked well and what could be improved.
