Dear PAIG Members,

On behalf of all PAIG members, I’d like to thank Andy for his service as co-chair over the past year and a half! We wish him all the best for his next chapter.

As far as PAIG’s next chapter: Our by-laws unfortunately do not offer advice about how to proceed in the event of a co-chair stepping down. What had been planned was for my four-year term to conclude in November 2018, and for Andy’s four-year term to conclude in November 2020. This pattern of overlapping terms was designed to achieve a balance between stability and regular turnover in our leadership structure.

In the spirit of maintaining that same balance, and in the absence of advice from our by-laws, I would like to propose the following:

(1) I have asked Nathan Pell to serve as co-chair on an interim basis, through the November 2018 meeting. Many of you know Nathan as the submissions manager (and as a regular contributor) to PAIG’s blog, a project he has led in recent years with great energy and enthusiasm. I look forward to working with Nathan in a new capacity.

(2) This Fall, we will hold an election for a PAIG co-chair for a four-year term from November 2018 to November 2022. I would like to ask interested candidates to email me by July 1 (using subject “PAIG Election”).

(3) I will extend my term as co-chair through November 2020. I suggest this so that we can get back on track with overlapping four-year terms and to avoid changing our leadership all at once.

(4) Within the next academic year, I will solicit input toward a By-Laws amendment to address the issue of a co-chair’s resignation, so that we will have a policy to consult in the event of a future case.

Lastly: For anyone who is interested in getting more involved with PAIG, I encourage you to contact us at any time. One great way to participate is to help us with the blog (either by contributing ideas or helping us to commission other writers). If this might be of interest to you, please don’t hesitate to email Nathan (npell at gradcenter.cun.edu) or me (edward.klorman at mcgill.ca).

With best wishes,

Ed

It has been a sincere pleasure being part of this community, and I am grateful to have gotten to know some of you. I am sorry to be leaving just a year and a half in, though I have no doubt that the transition will be smooth. I'd like to thank Ed Klorman in particular for showing me the ropes, and for his kindness. I wish you all the very best.
