[Smt-talk] I - II- IV as a progression: classical precedents

I offer many genuine thanks to Richard Porterfield for tracking 
that Byrd piece down.  I don't have a score for it handy, but in 
this video -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlJw8fXqsjo -- one 
can hear pretty clearly what he's referring to at 1:50 or so.  
It's not exactly as straightforward as "Eight Days A Week," but 
(and pardon my use of Roman numerals in describing Byrd) the 
II-IV-I is indeed in there (following some chromaticism that 
emphasizes the supertonic).  For what it's worth, after the plagal 
resolution, there is an authentic cadence, which suggests that 
Byrd may have more in common with Donovan than with The Beatles.
