Dear Collective Wisdom regarding Aural Skills/Musicianship,
As a small department dealing with steadily growing numbers of transfer
students and double majors with tight schedules (not to mention reduced
funding for adjuncts), we are considering shifting from a
rigidly-defined Musicianship sequence to a cyclical model, one in which
students would re-enroll as needed until they passed a series of exit
exams. In this ideal curriculum, faculty and TAs would work
individually with students on specific topics, while continuing to meet
twice weekly as a lab.
Has anyone out there worked with such a model, and - if so - could you
offer any feedback on the perils and rewards of such a system?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
