Not at all. “Efficient voice leading” entails (in conjunction with other assumptions) the piling “in thirds” (rather than some other arbitrary interval), that the modular generic space be of an odd cardinality b (e.g. 7), and that the number of elements in the chord be (b-1)/2 or (b+1)/2 (e.g., 3 or 4).
