Hi Dimitar, and others,
The term "Double Harmonic" in "Double Harmonic Major" and in "Double
Harmonic Minor" does not seem appropriate. The use of such scales from India
to Morocco, and also SE Europe, is a purely melodic one.
As origin we should assume India, for two reasons.
1) Much of complex culture which in "the West" has been attributed to
Arabian countries actually has its origin in India.
2) As opposed to Arabian music, Indian music has an underlying structure of
12 tones that corresponds to the western piano tones. The scales you quoted
are more stable in an auditory context of a 12-tone structure.
