Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to provide a brief report of a wonderful event that took place in Leuven, Belgium, between 17-20 September, 2014.

The huge European conference in music analysis (EUROMAC), handled mainly by the Dutch-Flemish Society for Music theory, whose headquarters is the University of Leuven, included more than 400 participants, with some 30 American colleagues present. In average, there were ten simultaneous sessions in the morning and ten in the afternoon, on various topics from music theory and musicology, to computational analysis, etc. There were two keynote lecturers (Hermann Danuser and Richard Taruskin), six guest lecturers, and a great number of presenters. Besides, there was a welcoming session for the Russian Society for Music Theory and a Round Table on Music Analysis.

This creative and scholarly event was rounded up by the wonderful atmosphere of the city of Leuven with its bells chiming different melodies every half hour, with two receptions and a special dinner, with making of new acquaintances and spending wonderful time together after the main events.

The excellent organization which made the European conference a huge success, fell on the shoulders of Prof. Pieter Bergé, President of the Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory, who was helped by meticulous teams of colleagues and students. A great job was done by the Organizational Committee, the Student Team, the Scientific Committee, and the Presidents of the International Reading Committee.

Those of us who attended EUROMAC in Leuven are looking forward to the next conference whose time and place are yet to be determined. The conference is held once in three or four years.

Thanks,

Dimitar
